Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA) - Two toddlers in Riau that had contracted the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) disease are being hospitalized in Dumai City, one of the COVID-19 clusters in the province, the Riau Health Office revealed here, Monday.

The two COVID-19-infected toddlers are identified as Patient 29 and 47 from families in Dumai City, spokesman of Riau Province's COVID-19 Task Force, Indra Yovi, stated.

Patient 29 might have contracted COVID-19 from this two-year-old infant's grandfather, who had traveled to Bekasi, one of the red zones in West Java Province, while it is yet unknown from whom Patient 47 had contracted the virus, he remarked.

Simultaneously, the parents of Patient 47 had been subject to swab tests before being allowed to attend an event organized by Dumai City's health office. Their swab tests showed negative results.

"Hence, we cannot yet know who has transmitted the disease to the infant identified as Case 47," he remarked, adding that the two toddlers could be accompanied by their parents during their treatment at the Dumai city public hospital's isolation wards.

However, the parents should wear hazmat suits and sign a letter that states they are sentient of the risk of being infected by coronavirus, he noted.

Yovi revealed recently that Patient 29's grandfather and grandmother had also tested positive for the deadly virus.

The two-year-old's grandfather, Patient 27, has been identified by the initial S. His wife, Patient 28, has been identified by the initial K. Patient 29, their two-year-old grandchild, was identified by the initials DYA.

The coronavirus outbreak initially struck the Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of 2019, but it then spread to various parts of the world, including countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Indonesian government officially announced the country's first confirmed cases on March 2.

Since then, central and regional governments across the country have continually striven to flatten the curve by imposing healthcare protocols and social restrictions.

In breaking the chain of this COVID-19 pandemic, the Indonesian Health Ministry has approved a request of the Pekanbaru city government to impose large-scale social restriction and distancing measures.
