The number of COVID-19 patients making a complete recovery has continued to increase, spokesperson for the Papua Province’s Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of COVID-19, Dr. Silwanus Sumule, said here on Monday.
He said 21 of the 60 COVID-19 patients who have recovered from the disease reside in Jayapura City, 13 in Mimika District, 10 in Jayapura District, 8 in Merauke District, 3 in Sarmi District, and 2 in Keerom and Jayawijaya districts each.
The province has recorded a total of 240 COVID-19 cases as of Monday, and 173 of the patients are being treated at referral hospitals across cities and district capitals in the province, he informed.
"Hopefully, the number of patients recovering will continue to increase, and the public will comply with the government's directives by wearing masks and observing social distancing and physical distancing while venturing outdoors," he said.
The higher number of recoveries is inseparable from the medical workers' efforts to trace patients before they got seriously ill, he said.
Therefore, he said he has appealed to local people who have come in close contact with a COVID-19 patient to report to the task force soon so they can be tested.
