Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Police brought to light 92 cases of embezzlement of COVID-19 social aid funds, a spokesman of the Indonesian Police Senior Commissioner Ahmad Ramadhan stated here on Tuesday.

Ramadhan highlighted that cases of embezzlement were handled by the Special Task Force for Supervision of COVID-19 Funds in 18 regional police headquarters.

"According to the data we received, 92 cases of embezzlement of aid funds were handled by 18 regional police headquarters," he remarked.

Ramadhan pointed out that of the 92 cases, 38 were handled by the North Sumatra Police, while the West Java Police had handled 12 cases, eight cases by the West Nusa Tenggara Police, seven cases by the Riau Police, and four cases by the South Sulawesi Police.

The police of Banten, East Java, East Nusa Tenggara, and Central Sulawesi handled three cases respectively.

"The North Maluku Police and South Sumatra Police handled two cases respectively," he revealed.

The police in Central Kalimantan, Riau Islands, West Sulawesi, West Sumatra, North Kalimantan, Lampung, and West Papua each handled one case.

President Joko Widodo has called on the National Police to avert any attempts to misappropriate the funding allocated to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The head of state has laid emphasis on preventive measures instead of legal actions.
