The province's consumer price index reached 104.66 in September, 2020, chief of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Office in Central Java, Sentot Bangun Widoyono, said in a statement released on Thursday.
Tuition fees contributed the most to inflation, accounting for 0.37 percent of the total inflation in September, he said.
The rise in the prices of foodstuffs, including cooking oil and garlic, also contributed to inflation, he added.
Not all six cities in Central Java surveyed for the consumer price index reported an inflation, he informed.
Surakarta and Semarang recorded an inflation of 0.09 percent and 0.07 percent, respectively, while Kudus, Tegal, Purwokerto, and Cilacap witnessed a deflation.
September was the third successive month when Indonesia reported a deflation, which was recorded at 0.05 percent, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) stated.
"When we observe the developments in commodity prices in September, in general, (the prices have) declined," BPS chief Suhariyanto noted during a press conference here on Thursday.
With the deflation, the calendar inflation during the January-September period for this year reached 0.89 percent, while the year-on-year inflation touched 1.42 percent.
The BPS noted that 56 of the 90 cities surveyed for the consumer price index recorded a deflation, while 34 recorded an inflation in September, 2020.
Indonesia had posted a deflation of 0.10 percent in July and 0.05 percent in August this year.
The deflation was attributed to a decline in the prices of various commodities, especially volatile goods and services, such as foodstuffs and air tickets.
