We can see that the cumulative number of cases have continued to decline in proportion
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The percentage of active novel coronavirus cases across Indonesia has continued to decline to reach 19.17 percent as of October 14, 2020, according to the Task Force for Handling COVID-19.

“We can see that the cumulative number of cases have continued to decline in proportion,” said head of data and information technology, COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Dr. Dewi Nur Aisyah, at a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.

She said the active cases were not calculated from the cumulative number of current COVID-19 cases, rather, they were obtained from the percentage of people who were ill, divided by the number of infected people.

Based on this ratio, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Indonesia have continued to decline from March to October this year, she noted.

“That way, since the beginning, when a COVID-19 case was found in Indonesia in early March, 2020 until now October 14, we can see that the graph has decreased,” she explained.

Reiterating that the percentage of active COVID-19 cases is very dynamic, she said that the percentage may continue to decline if there is a decrease in cases, but it could also increase if cases surge.

“We can see for example in July, at the end of July, it went down, then at the beginning, it rose a little bit again. Early September, we experienced a very high increase in cases. When at the end of August the number had reached a low point, but then it rose again in September,” she elaborated.

She said she hoped that the percentage of active cases will continue to decline, with more recoveries recorded rather than fatalities, ensuring there are fewer active cases.

“It means that if it (the percentage) goes down, all active cases will have results, whether they are recoveries or fatalities. What we are hoping for is certainly a cure," said Dewi Nur Aisyah. (INE)
