Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - The number of active cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in North Sumatra Province dropped to 1,935, from 2,013 earlier, the provincial task force for COVID-19 handling confirmed.

The figure was derived after 161 COVID-19 patients had recovered from the disease, spokesman for the North Sumatra Provincial Task Force for COVID-19 Handling Dr Aris Yudhariansyah stated on Thursday.

"(In total), the number of patients recovering (from COVID-19) currently reached 9,176," he noted.

With the addition of 88 fresh cases, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the province reached 11,596, as of Thursday.

"Five other patients died (of the virus), thereby taking the death toll to 485," he remarked.

Meanwhile, the number of suspected COVID-19 patients increased by 51 to reach 1,023, Yudhariansyah stated.

A total of 112,964 specimens were examined by Thursday, he revealed.
