The youth must lead by example and ensure the observance of COVID-19 health protocols in their respective neighborhoods, he added.
“This year's Youth Pledge should be a momentum for youth to rise to face adversity in various lines and sectors of life, but Indonesian youth also have a big role in society in carrying out the COVID-19 health protocols by implementing the 3Ms (washing hands with soap, wearing masks, and keeping a distance from other people),” Zainudin remarked at an event to mark the 92nd Youth Pledge Day in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He said the theme of “Unity and Awakening” of the 92nd Youth Pledge Day is relevant today, 92 years after Indonesian youth first struggled to raise awareness and free themselves from the shackles of colonialism.
The same spirit of unity must be invoked as the country struggles to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, the minister said.
Freeing the nation of the pandemic will require the same level of enthusiasm and fighting spirit as 92 years ago, he remarked.
Even though the youth have felt the impact of the COVID-19, they must demonstrate a great level of enthusiasm to unite and make changes, Zainudin said.
If the youth play a big role in overcoming the pandemic, it is not impossible that Indonesia's reputation in the eyes of the world would rise, as COVID-19 has hit various aspects of people's lives, he added.
"The pandemic has had a wide impact on society, including Indonesian youth. Therefore, it would take a shared spirit to revive Indonesia in the eyes of the world,” the minister averred. (INE)
