Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) Chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari confirmed that President Joko Widodo will visit the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Switzerland in connection with Indonesia's bid to host the 2032 Olympics.

"We urge the president to visit the IOC office in Lausanne, Switzerland, and the president agrees that this will greatly assist our nomination process as host of the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics," Oktohari stated during a virtual press conference here on Wednesday.

The KOI chairman notified the press about the plan after attending a virtual limited cabinet meeting on "Indonesia's Bid to Host the Olympics in 2032", chaired by President Jokowi.

State Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir, concurrently a member of the IOC from Indonesia, visited the IOC headquarters in Switzerland in October 2020.

In its bid to host the 2032 Olympics, Indonesia will compete with Australia, Germany, Korea Unification, Qatar, and India, among others.

President Jokowi sent a letter to the IOC in 2018 over Indonesia's official offer to host the 2032 Olympics, he pointed out.

"It would be the first time that the Olympics will be held in Southeast Asia. We are optimistic of receiving all the well-deserved trust, and we seek the support of all Indonesian people to fight with us and prove that Indonesia is also capable of hosting the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics," he affirmed.

One of the important processes in this bidding is support from the Indonesian people, as the IOC has said that the city to host it is one that has legacy, sustainability, and community support, and is eco-friendly, he stated.
