Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) congratulates Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on  their victory in the 2020 US elections, as stated in a post on his official Instagram account.

"My warmest congratulations @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris on your historic election. The huge turn out is a reflection of the hope placed on democracy," he said on Sunday.

In the post that featured an image of him and Biden shaking their hands, Jokowi also expressed his eagerness to work together with the United States of America under Biden's leadership.

"Look forward to work closely with you in strengthening Indonesia-US strategic partnership and pushing forward our cooperation on economy, democracy and multilateralism for the benefit of our two people and beyond," he said.
It was previously reported by a number of media outlets that Democrat Joe Biden emerged victorious in the 2020 US presidential race on Saturday (Nov 7).

Biden's victory in the states of Pennsylvania and Nevada won him 290 Electoral College votes, 20 votes over the threshold of 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidential election.

Biden, who will become the States' 46th president, can still acquire another 16 Electoral College votes from Georgia, and is closely following Republican Donald Trump in North Carolina with 15 Electoral College votes.

The former American Vice President during Barack Obama's presidency, and his running mate Kamala Harris, won in the numbers of both Electoral College votes and popular votes.

The pair's popular votes surpassed those of incumbent Trump's with 75 million votes against 70.6 million votes.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that President Donald Trump's campaign would begin challenging US election results in court next week after media outlets called the race for Democrat Joe Biden, saying "this election is far from over."
