Jakarta (ANTARA) - The spiraling prices of several commodities drove Indonesia's inflation to rise 0.28 percent in November, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

BPS Deputy Head of Distribution and Service Statistics Setianto, here on Tuesday, attributed the hike in prices to the disruption in supplies at the start of the rainy season.

"Be watchful for the November inflation caused by the start of the rainy season and the long holidays some time ago. The weather may also hinder the distribution of goods to consumers," he remarked.

Food and beverages and tobacco contributed the highest to the inflation at 0.86 percent, he pointed out.

"This price hike could be seen from foodstuffs, including purebred chicken meat, purebred chicken eggs, red chili, and onion, contributing to inflation," he remarked.

The other group of spending contributing to the inflation were healthcare, at 0.32 percent; transportation, at 0.30 percent; and clothing and footwear, at 0.14 percent.

However, the group of personal care and other services recorded a deflation of 0.23 percent, while the group of housing, water, electrical power, and household fuels witnessed a deflation of 0.04 percent.

Setianto remarked that 83 of the 90 cities surveyed for consumer price index witnessed inflation, with the highest of 1.15 percent recorded in Tual and the lowest of 0.01 percent registered in Bima.

Seven cities witnessed a deflation with the highest of 0.22 percent recorded in Kendari and the lowest of 0.01 percent registered in Meulaboh and Palopo.

The November inflation brought the calendar inflation to 1.23 percent and year-on-year inflation to 1.59 percent.
