The stakeholders referred to are Heads of the Main Harbormaster Offices, Port Authorities/KSOP, Batam Special KSOP, Port Administration Units/UPP and Heads of Marine and Coast Guard Base/PLP, and Navigation District Heads.
"I have instructed all harbormasters to re-monitor weather conditions every day through the website www.bmkg.go.id and disseminate the results of monitoring to service users and post them at terminals or embarkation places for passenger debarkation," the ministry's Director of Sea and Beach Guard Unit, Ahmad, noted in a statement here on Tuesday.
When the weather conditions endanger shipping safety, harbormasters must not issue a Sailing Approval Letter (SPB) until the conditions are safe for sailing.
"Loading and unloading activities of goods must be monitored regularly to ensure that they are conducted in an orderly and smooth manner and that the cargo is dilated, the ship does not overdraft, and the stability of the ship remains good," he explained.
Ahmad also instructed all heads of PLP Bases and Navigation District Heads to ready state-owned patrol boats to help other ships during emergency situations.
"I instructed all heads of PLP Bases and Navigation District Heads for readying state ships, such as patrol boats and flag ships, to remain on alert and immediately provide assistance to ships that are in danger or have met with an accident," Ahmad remarked.
Based on the Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) monitoring on December 7, 2020, extreme weather is forecast on December 21-27, 2020, with very high waves of six to nine meters projected to arise in the North Natuna Sea, Anambas Islands waters up to the South Indian Ocean Kupang - Rote Island.
Extreme weather, with waves reaching heights of 2.5 to four meters, will occur in the Southern waters of West Java to Sumba Island, the Savu Island Linkage, the Kupang South Rote Island, the South Timor Sea, NTT, the Southern Indian Ocean, Banten, to NTT, and the Natuna Sea to the North Maluku Sea.
Extreme weather, with moderate waves of 1.25 - 2.5 meters, is forecast to occur in the Malacca Strait, Lhoksumawe waters, Sabang waters, West Aceh waters, waters of West of Simeulue Island - Mentawai Islands, Padang waters, Engganao waters - Bengkulu, West Lampung waters, West Indian Ocean Sumatra, Sunda Strait, waters of Banten Strait, Sumba Strait, East Batam - Lingga Islands, Bangka Belitung waters, Karimata Strait, Java Sea, Karimun Jawa Islands waters, Bawean Island waters - Masalembu Islands, and Southern Kalimantan waters.
