Jakarta (ANTARA) - A COVID-19 patient hospitalized at the Wisma Atlet Kemayoran emergency hospital is named potential suspect for allegedly spreading dirty chats with a nurse that reportedly became his gay sex partner, according to a police spokesperson.

As of Sunday, police investigators had yet to name the patient, whose identity remains unpublished, as a suspect in this alleged gay sex scandal, Jakarta Metropolitan Police spokesman Sen. Coms. Yusri Yunus was quoted by ANTARA as saying here on Monday.

However, the police investigators will likely name him a suspect for spreading dirty chats with the nurse soon after they have secured at least two substantial pieces of evidence, Yunus remarked.

Those spreading screenshots of chats with pornographic content can be charged for violating Article 45, Point 1 and Article 27, Point 1 of Indonesia's Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law, as well as Article 36 of the country's anti-pornographic law.

If found guilty, they may be sentenced to 10 years in prison, he remarked, adding that the police investigators had summoned several witnesses, including the nurse, who was mentioned in the dirty chats.

Yunus confirmed that the nurse had received a non-reactive result in the rapid test conducted by the police's medical worker, while the patient had yet to be summoned for questioning since he is still under hospitalization at Wisma Atlet.

In connection with this case, the police investigators had summoned several witnesses, including the nurse, for clarification to respond to a report by the emergency hospital staffers on the alleged gay sex scandal.

According to Central Jakarta Police Chief Sen. Coms. Heru Novianto, the police investigators summoned the witnesses and were accruing substantial evidence to uncover the case.

The emergency hospital staffers had revealed the gay couple's dirty chats. According to the emergency hospital staffers' report, the gay couple had several times engaged in sex inside a special toilet for nurses.

The Wisma Atlet emergency hospital, with a total capacity to handle 12 thousand patients, was officially inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on March 23, 2020, as part of Indonesia's endeavors to fight the global pandemic of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The Indonesian government also built another emergency hospital in Galang Island, Riau Islands Province. The Galang Emergency Hospital has officially been operational since April 6, 2020.

COVID-19 initially struck the Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of 2019, but it then spread to various parts of the world, including Indonesia.

The first COVID-19 infections in Indonesia were reported on March 2 this year.
