Today, the DVI team managed to identify five victims
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police's Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team has identified five other bodies of passengers of the crashed Sriwijaya Air flight SJ 182, bringing the count of bodies identified as of Sunday evening to 29.

"Today, the DVI team managed to identify five victims," Brig. Gen. Rusdi Hartono, chief of the public information bureau of the public relations division at the National Police, stated at a press conference at the Police Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, on Sunday.

The five identified bodies comprise Yunni Dwi Saputri, Iuskandar, Oke Durrotul Jannah, and Fao Nuntius Zai, a 11-month-old infant. The identity of one body was not made public at the request of the family, he remarked.

"We must appreciate and respect the family's wish. The family wants the identity (of their relative) to not be published. Once again, we appreciate and respect (the wish)," he stated.

Rusdi remarked that the five bodies could be identified through the examination of DNA samples.

The DVI team had earlier identified 24 bodies of the crashed Sriwijaya Air plane's passengers.

The 24 bodies identified were Okky Bisma, Khasanah, Fadly Satrianto, Asy Habul Yamin, Indah Halimah Putri, Agus Minarni, Ricko, Ihsan Adhlan Hakim, Mia Trasetyani, Yohanes Suherdi, Pipit Priyono, Supianto, Toni Ismail, Dinda Amelia, Isti Yudha Prastika, Putri Wahyuni and Rahmawati, Makrufatul Yeti, Rosi Wahyuni, Rizki Wahyudi, Nelly, Beben Sopian, Arifin Ilyas, and Arneta Fauzia.

As of last Friday (Jan 15), the DVI team had received the DNA samples of all passengers of the crashed Sriwijaya Air flight SJ-182.

"In total, we have received 140 DNA samples for 62 victims. Hence, we have received DNA samples for all victims," Hartono noted on Friday.

Based on the manifest, the plane had 50 passengers and 12 crew members on board. Of the total passengers, 40 were adults, seven were children, and three were infants.

The Sriwijaya Air flight SJ-182, bearing registration number PK-CLC, lost contact on January 9, 2020, at 2:40 p.m. Western Indonesia time (WIB) shortly after take-off and crashed between Lancang Island and Laki Island, Thousand Islands, DKI Jakarta. The plane had departed from Jakarta and was headed to Pontianak.
