Jakarta (ANTARA) - The East Jakarta Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) handed out food to flood victims in several residential areas after the Ciliwung River overflowed its bank since Sunday afternoon.

"This noon, we will distribute lunch comprising bread and mineral water. Later, we will also distribute rice packages," PMI East Jakarta Head Euis Komalasari stated here on Monday.

The PMI will distribute food at four locations that bore the brunt of the flooding, she remarked.

Bidaracina and Cawang will each receive 200 packs; Kampung Melayu, 250 packs; and Kebon Manggis, 300 packs.

Floodwaters reached a height of between a meter to four meters in residential areas in East Jakarta.

The flooding was triggered by incessant heavy rains over the last several days and waters flowing from the Katulamda sluice in Bogor.

PMI's personnel on the field possess the requisite skills to maintain health protocols while on duty to distribute the food aid.

"We continue to implement the health protocols because we would come in contact with the affected people during the food distribution. However, we have not used hazmat. We still have standard PPE, such as masks, along with following the practice of hand washing and always maintaining a safe distance," she stated.
