Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - The National Police’s counterterrorism squad, Densus 88, has arrested one more terror suspect with links to the Ansharut Daulah network in Kurik, Merauke, Papua.

"The (suspected) terrorist was arrested on Sunday," chief of the Merauke district police, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Untung Sangaji, informed on Monday.

He said the terror suspect was arrested along with evidence.

"Sorry, we cannot yet disclose (details about) the case further because it is still under investigation," he added.

Earlier, on May 28, 2021, Densus had picked up 10 persons suspected of planning suicide bombings at Merauke churches. They are believed to be members of Ansharut Daulah and their involvement is suspected in the suicide bombing in Makassar, South Sulawesi, early in January this year, Sangaji said.

The 10 suspects, identified by their initials as AK, SB, ZR, UAT, DS, SD, WS, YK, AP, and IK, will be flown to Jayapura, the capital of Papua province, on Wednesday (June 2, 2021) for further questioning.

They were allegedly planning suicide bombings at several churches in Merauke, Jagebob, Kurik, Semangga, and Tanah Miring, but dropped their plan upon finding police personnel at the targeted sites, Sangaji said.(INE)
