Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has prepared ASN apartments in Semarang, the provincial capital of Central Java, to serve as a self-isolation site for COVID-19 patients, Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono has said.

At present, the number of people exposed to COVID-19 is not in proportion with the number of isolation rooms at health facilities, Hadimuljono said in a press statement released on Friday.

On its part, the Public Works and Housing Ministry will use ASN apartments in Semarang as a site for self-isolation, he informed.

Hadimuljono said the government will make every effort to help people, including employees of the Public Works and Housing Ministry, who have been exposed to COVID-19 to recover soon.

The ministry will coordinate with several health facilities, the local government, and the local office of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) to ensure the handling of COVID-19 patients self-isolating at the apartments runs smoothly, he added.

"I also appeal to the employees of the Public Works and Housing Ministry to continue to follow the health protocols and comply with the government's policy on emergency PPKM (public activity restrictions)," he said.

The eight-story ASN BBWS Pemali Juwana apartments in Banyumanik sub-district, Semarang have been selected as the self-isolation site, he added.

"The vertical residence has occupancy capacity of 95 units, measuring 45 square meters. At this moment, the Public Works and Housing Ministry is preparing supporting facilities as isolation rooms to accommodate COVID-19 patients," the minister said.
