Jakarta (ANTARA) - West Java, Jakarta, and Banten provinces recorded a decline in public mobility on Wednesday (July 12, 2021), the 10th day of the implementation of the Java-Bali emergency restrictions (PPKM), according to a government spokesperson.

"On the 10th day of the implementation of the Java-Bali Emergency PPKM, almost all areas of Jakarta, West Java, and Banten have improved in reducing the people's mobility," Dedy Permadi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), said in a press statement issued here on Wednesday.

There has been a 21.3-percent decline in public mobility in Jakarta, except in East Jakarta, which remains quite crowded, he informed.

Mobility in West Java, except in the North Coast (Pantura) area, has also reduced, he said.

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, in his capacity as the Coordinator for Emergency PPKM in Java and Bali, has lauded the regional governments, TNI (the Indonesian Defense Forces), Polri (the Indonesian Police), Satpol PP (civilian security guards), and the community for abiding by the emergency PPKM rules, Permadi added.

"The Emergency PPKM coordinator appeals to all parties to continue working to suppress the public's mobility to minus 30 percent and in the end minus 50 percent," he continued.

A significant reduction in mobility is crucial to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus, he explained.

"Thus, reducing people's mobility is a high-priority agenda now," he said.

The Indonesian government has imposed PPKM on the islands of Java and Bali from July 3 to July 20, 2021 following a drastic spike in COVID-19 cases, attributed to the more infectious and fatal Delta variant of the coronavirus.
