Good news for Indonesia is that we will soon welcome the National Digital Institute University. This university will soon be launched in 2022
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Informatics intends to convert the Yogyakarta Multimedia College (STTM) into a University of National Digital Institute (IDN-U) to facilitate the development of digital talent.

"Good news for Indonesia is that we will soon welcome the National Digital Institute University. This university will soon be launched in 2022. The program will be opened in the first quarter," Dedy Permadi, the ministry's spokesman, stated during a virtual live broadcast on Thursday.

IDN-U is a government program to educate digital talent at a higher level. This institute has not only been opened in Yogyakarta but also in several other big cities, including Jakarta, Medan, Bandung, Surabaya, Banjarmasin, Makassar, and Manado.

"This is certainly a breath of fresh air wherein we harbor huge optimism because apart from non-formal training, we also encourage formal education to prepare digital talent or skills," Permadi remarked.

The campus will have four schools led by four deans: the School of Digital Communication, the School of Business and Digital Platforms, the Post-graduate School of Communication and Informatics, and the School of Digital Policy and Regulation.

IDN-U will be a university that focuses on honing digital skills. Some 70 percent of its lecturers will be practitioners or experts, while 30 percent will be academics.

The education format will have curriculum levels: elementary, secondary, and advanced.

Three programs on offer are regular, non-regular, and researches and community studies (PPM).

The regular program will comprise applied undergraduate and/or undergraduate programs and applied postgraduate programs.

The non-regular program will include applied undergraduate programs, applied postgraduate programs, and certificate programs. Meanwhile, research and PPM programs will include applied research in the field of digital transformation and community service.

The ministry does not apply any age restrictions on students, though they are required to take a standardization test for selection of new admissions.
