Jakarta (ANTARA) - Section 1 of Cibitung-Cilincing Highway in Bekasi District is ready to commence on Saturday (July 31), PT Cibitung Tanjung Priok Port Tollways has announced.

The operation of the national strategic project is based on the Public Work and Public Housing Minister’s Decree Number 837/KPTS/M/2021, President Director of PT Cibitung Tanjung Priok Port Tollways Thorry Hendarto said in Cibitung on Friday.

The 2.65-km highway is part of Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) 2 and is expected to cut travel time from the eastern area of Jakarta to the northern part of the capital city.

"It usually takes more than an hour to go from Cibitung to Tanjung Priok through Jakarta-Cikampek Highway and Jakarta Inner Ring Road. However, it will take about half an hour to travel through the Cibitung-Cilincing Toll Road," he said.

As the road has met the technical, administrative and operating system eligibility, the toll segment will be operated in two stages. The first stage will be a trial on July 31 to August 7, 2021, where the toll road will be opened to the public for free, Hendarto informed.

The second phase would be started on August 8, 2021, when users would be charged a toll fee of Rp1.987 per kilometer. The amount of toll rates and classification of the vehicles have been regulated in the PUPR Minister’s Decree Number 838/KPTS/M/2021, he stated.

"However, the tariff will be adjusted according to the developments and dynamics amid the enforcement of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM)," he said.

The ministry's spokesperson Krisno Yuwono has stated that the Cibitung-Cilincing Toll Road – as one of highways in Greater Jakarta (Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Tangerang-Bekasi or Jabodetabek) -- will connect industrial areas in Cikarang and Tanjung Priok Port.

"The highway will ease mobility, commuter activity, as well as logistics delivery, especially between the Cibitung and Cilincing industrial areas," he said.
