Science and technology human resources will be key assets for pushing Indonesia out of the middle-income trap to become a developed country.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Agency for Research and Innovation (BRIN) has said it will strive to strengthen national talent management by reaching out to Indonesian human resources in the science and technology sectors.



"BRIN is pushing efforts to realize national talent management, especially in the field of research and innovation," head of BRIN, Laksana Tri Handoko, said on the 26th National Technology Awakening Day (Hakteknas) here on Tuesday. The theme for this year's Hakteknas was 'Integration of Research for Innovative Indonesia'.



“National talent management is being considered because BRIN has the largest and most complete (pool of) resources, (in terms of) human resources, infrastructure, and budget," he elaborated.



To mark Hakteknas, BRIN will make efforts to improve the competence of human resources in the research and innovation sectors, Handoko stated.



"Science and technology human resources will be key assets for pushing Indonesia out of the middle-income trap to become a developed country," he stressed.



Reliable and qualified science and technology human resources will also be able to help Indonesia progress in the field of research and innovation to improve the economy, he added.

BRIN will invite top researchers and others in the field who have promising talent and experience and hire them to work real-time in laboratories in Indonesia, Handoko disclosed.



"The existence of these diasporas also has significance. They can be a collaborative liaison between R&D institutions (research, development, assessment, and application) in the country with similar overseas institutions," he explained.



In yet another step, BRIN will offer talented youth the opportunity to join the agency as civil service candidates (ASN), he said.



According to Siti Zuhro, a senior researcher at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), BRIN has been tasked with mapping the needs of the science and technology sector and preparing inventions and innovations that will be used for solving developmental problems.



To achieve this end, BRIN needs to focus on research and innovation that can help boost Indonesia's development, she remarked.
