In framing derivative regulations, strengthening Indonesia's research and innovation ecosystem, BRIN has set three directions and seven targets.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Agency for Research and Innovation (BRIN) has said it has finalized the draft of derivative rules on operations of R&D institutions, as mandated by Law No.11 of 2019 on the National System of Science and Technology.

"The derivative regulations are expected to strengthen efforts related to improving the science and technology ecosystem in Indonesia," head of BRIN, Laksana Tri Handoko, said at an event marking the 26th National Technology Awakening Day (Hakteknas), themed 'Integration of Research for Innovative Indonesia: Digital Green Blue Economy', here on Tuesday.

BRIN, as an autonomous government institution, is directly responsible to the President and plays a vital basic role, especially in its endeavor to integrate programs, budgets, and human resources in science and technology sectors, Handoko said.

Therefore, in addition to supporting inventions and innovative products, BRIN can also lay a scientific basis for the formulation and determination of science-based policies, he added.

“In framing derivative regulations, strengthening Indonesia's research and innovation ecosystem, BRIN has set three directions and seven targets,” he pointed out.

The first direction is to integrate science and technology resources -- human, infrastructure, and budget -- to boost critical mass, capacity, and competence of Indonesian research so as to produce inventions as the country's main foundation of Golden Indonesia 2045, he informed.

The second direction is to create a research ecosystem, in accordance with global standards that are inclusive and support collaboration, especially with domestic and foreign industry academics, he said.

The third direction is to create a strong and sustainable research-based economic foundation with a digital, green, and blue economy focus, he added.

Meanwhile, the seven targets include the consolidation of major government research institutions by January 1, 2022, business process transformation, and comprehensive research management to accelerate critical mass, Handoko said.

The target includes refocusing on research to increase Economic Value Added (EVA), based on natural, biodiversity, geographical, and local marine resources, while catching up with the science and technology sectors, he added.
