Most of those 166 thousand volunteers are nurses
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A total of 166 thousand volunteers from various regions in Indonesia have undergone vaccination training to help the government accelerate the realization of the COVID-19 vaccination target by December 2021.

"They are recruited by the central government. The number does not include volunteers spread in regions," General Chair of the Indonesian Nurses Association (PPNI) Harif Fadhillah confirmed telephonically on Friday.

Fadhillah noted that the Health Ministry had trained as many as 166 thousand volunteers on procedures for conducting duties in the COVID-19 vaccination team.

"Most of those 166 thousand volunteers are nurses," he remarked.

He noted that some of the volunteers were recruited from graduates that had recently completed nursing schools to youth organizations in the regions.

Fadhillah advised the government to enforce equal rights for volunteers, with all parties involved in implementing the COVID-19 vaccination.

"No clarity had yet been gained regarding the compensation that the volunteers will get. Many have inquired about it. Even if it is voluntary work, it must also be informed, and the same applies to all those involved in vaccination," he emphasized.

Spokesperson for COVID-19 Vaccination at the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, remarked that the COVID-19 vaccination training for health workers was readied along with UNICEF.

"The training comprises six modules that encompass video seminars, quizzes, equipment, interactive exercises, and downloadable presentations containing available information," she revealed.

Tarmizi noted that the training participants had obtained general information on COVID-19 and specific information on storing, handling, and administering vaccines as well as recording and monitoring, including for adverse effects following immunization (AEFI).

Participants are also trained to communicate in the process of receiving and requesting vaccines through a series of short video seminars and quizzes to test their knowledge, she remarked.

"The duration for each session is three hours. Participants obtaining a minimum score of 80 percent or more from the total accumulated score of quizzes will be given a certificate of completion," Tarmizi noted.
