Congratulations on this year's remission granted to the 134,430 inmates throughout IndonesiaJakarta (ANTARA) - Some 134,430 inmates, including children in conflict with the law, received sentence cut, or remission, from the Law and Human Rights Ministry in commemoration of the 76th Anniversary of Indonesia’s independence.
"Congratulations on this year's remission granted to the 134,430 inmates throughout Indonesia," Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly stated here on Tuesday.
Out of the 134,430 inmates granted remission, 2,491 inmates were declared free immediately.
Laoly advised the remission recipients to demonstrate better outlook and conduct in following all future coaching programs' stages, processes, and activities.
The minister expressed hope that the inmates granted remission and released would lead a better life in the context of their families and communities.

In addition, he is optimistic that on returning to society, those individuals would be able to follow social values, abide by the rules, and actively participate in development in their day-to-day lives.
Amid the pandemic, the minister also reminded the ranks of the Directorate General of Correctional Facilities to increase vigil and make additional efforts to thwart the transmission of COVID-19 in prisons and detention centers.
Data on the occupants of prisons and detention centers currently reaches 103 percent, thereby raising the risk of COVID-19 transmission. This condition is further aggravated by inequitable access to medical facilities and the allocation of medical personnel in all prisons or detention centers in Indonesia.
Hence, the Directorate General of Correctional Facilities is calling to step up vigilance and put in additional efforts to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic while still implementing health protocols during all activities, he stated.
