In a written statement issued here on Thursday, she described the advancements of globalization, such as international e-commerce, as a double-edged sword.
On the one hand, she noted, there is an opportunity for the nation to sell domestic products in the international market.
On the other hand, it could open up opportunities for imported products to enter the country's market, Zuairina said.
Citing this reason, she requested the government to implement policies to counteract the negative impacts of international e-commerce.
One such policy is the provision of personal data protection so that e-commerce transactions are not misused by an irresponsible party, she pointed out.
Furthermore, the government should also provide protections for domestic consumers since electronic trade can lead to fraudulent practices, the DPR member remarked .

"The government should make a strict regulation to anticipate fraud and how to handle them, so that citizens can feel protected in conducting transactions through e-commerce after the implementation of the ASEAN Agreement on Electronic Commerce Bill," she elaborated.
The Bill should boost the government's role in developing export-oriented products through domestic micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) since cross-border trade through e-commerce can increase competition with international products, she opined.
She also urged the government to promptly create standardization regulations for products sold in Indonesia's territory.
Earlier, DPR Commission VI and the government agreed to bring the ASEAN Agreement on Electronic Commerce Bill before the plenary after it passed level 1 discussions.
