"We need to prioritize the importance of us conducting analysis and thinking what we can gain from the data," Nazara remarked during the 2021 Executive Webinar Hackathon at the Ministry of Finance here on Tuesday.
Nazara stated that the Ministry of Finance held abundant wealth of data that should be analyzed first before it becomes the foundation for formulating a certain policy.
He cited as an example how the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) received scores of data from taxpayers on a daily basis regarding their tax obligation that should be analyzed before formulating a new policy.
The same occurred with the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC), wherein data records were received on exports and imports every day that should be analyzed to gain an understanding of the latest situation, he added.
Nazara asserted that officials at the Ministry of Finance should not produce a policy based on emotions, instinct, and also opinions or gossip, but instead, they should formulate a policy based on knowledge, insight, analysis, and data.
Nazara opined that producing a policy based on data will result in one that aligns with the latest developments, caters to the public’s requirements, and is beneficial for the future.
He also advised officials of the Ministry of Finance to always support and complement the requirements in creating programs, servers, and software, among others.
"Please believe in our role. We have to conduct data analysis since our data is very large. Do not forget the primary purpose that is to formulate a policy based on data," Nazar emphasized.
