Biak, Papua (ANTARA) - Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Panjaitan and Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono demonstrated their support for fish exports conducted by Biak Numfor District, Papua Province.

Minister Trenggono and his entourage landed here aboard a special flight on Tuesday night.

Biak Numfor District Head Herry Ario Naap, in a statement on Wednesday, noted that Trenggono was scheduled to visit several fishery sector facilities, including the Integrated Fisheries Area Center (SKPT) developed to support the district's aqua product exports.

He is also scheduled to review a location of an integrated fishing port to be constructed in early 2022.

Minister Trenggono will additionally accompany Minister Pandjaitan to observe up-close several supporting infrastructure for the fisheries sector in Biak, according to the statement.

Their agenda also encompasses visits to the Frans Kaisiepo Biak airport cargo facilities, Biak Public Port inspection, Biak seaport, PT. Pelindo IV office, BMS Port Inspection, and Monitoring Integrated Fisheries Area Center (SKPT).

The maritime affairs and fisheries minister's visit to Biak Numfor is a follow-up to the recent visit of Herry Ario Naap to Jakarta.

The central government has been supporting the fishery industry in Biak Numfor, Naap stated.

Biak has become a fishery center in the eastern Indonesian region as it has exported fisheries in 2021 and has the potential to develop the fisheries sector as a regional flagship program, according to the district head.
