Palangka Raya, C Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The first COVID-19 vaccine dose was administered to 74.56 percent of the residents in Central Kalimantan's city of Palangka Raya, Mayor Fairid Naparin stated.

"Some 166,584 people out of the vaccination target of 223,417 were administered the first dose. This figure is about 74.56 percent of the vaccination target," the mayor noted in Palangka Raya on Friday.

On the other hand, the vaccination rate for the second dose has reached 52.87 percent. As many as 118,216 people were completely vaccinated against COVID-19, he remarked.

Aiming for a higher rate of COVID-19 vaccinations, the Palangka Raya city government and other stakeholders are pushing for vaccinations being conducted by both health service centers and others, he stated.

According to data from the Palangka Raya city's COVID-19 task force, the 223,417 residents targeted under the vaccine program comprise five categories: 3,512 health workers, 14,287 elderly people, 21,920 public servants, 154,647 general public, and 29,051 teenagers.

The same data showed that recently, at least 5,227 health workers were administered the first vaccine dose, 4,997 people have completed the second dose, and 3,357 health workers have received booster vaccines, the mayor noted.

Meanwhile, 7,732 elderly residents have received the first vaccine dose and at least 6,599 have received the second dose, he stated. As for the targeted public servants, 52,355 have received the first dose and 44,955 have completed the second dose, he added.

Among members of the general public, 79,180 people have obtained the first dose, while 49,830 people were given the second dose, Naparin stated. Lastly, at least 22,090 teenagers were administered the first dose, while 11,745 have received the second dose, he noted.

Naparin urged people in the city to continue to follow the COVID-19 health protocols to minimize the potential spread of COVID-19, which seems unlikely to end anytime soon.

To halt the spread of COVID-19, the Palangka Raya city government, through the task force team, is expediting efforts ranging from education, early detection, and security, to case handling.
