The UAE will be one of the invited guests for the G20 summit under the Indonesian presidency
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) extended an invitation to Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) to partake in the G20 Summit in Bali next year.

President Jokowi officially delivered the invitation during a bilateral meeting with Prince MBZ at Al-Shatie Palace, Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, Wednesday.

"Next year's G20 summit will be held in Bali on October 30-31 (2022). I have planned to invite His Majesty as a guest of the Indonesian presidency next year. I really hope that His Majesty would accept my invitation," President Jokowi stated as quoted from a press release received here on Thursday morning.

Furthermore, in the presence of Prince MBZ, he explained that the 2022 Indonesian presidency of G20 will bear the theme "Recover Together, Recover Stronger."

During the presidency, Indonesia will focus on several matters, comprising digitalization and energy transition, to ensure the availability of clean technologies that are affordable to all, inclusive finance, especially for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), women, and marginalized groups, as well as investment for green and sustainable economies.

Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi said that the Crown Prince had welcomed President Widodo's invitation.

"The UAE will be one of the invited guests for the G20 summit under the Indonesian presidency," Marsudi pointed out.

The foreign minister also explained that the meeting between both leaders lasted about 2.5 hours.

In addition to the G20, both leaders also discussed cooperation in renewable energy, investment, and trade, as well as for the development of Indonesia's new capital city.

Jokowi and Prince MBZ also conversed about the travel corridor arrangement (TCA). Indonesia has formed the TCA with the UAE since July 29, 2020, which is one of the first TCA to be established by Indonesia during the pandemic.

According to Minister Marsudi, with vaccinations and protection platforms, this TCA must be strengthened.

"Hence, both countries have agreed to strengthen TCA through mutual recognition of vaccine certificates and the integration of travel protection platforms," she noted.

President Jokowi and Crown Prince MBZ are also committed to intensifying cooperation and partnership in the construction of the new capital city.

Both leaders have agreed to intensively follow up on its progress through technical meetings.

"He directed to continue the discussion on the new capital city's development vigorously," Marsudi noted.

During the meeting with Prince MBZ, President Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, SOE Minister Erick Thohir, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Indonesian Ambassador to UAE Husin Bagis.
