President Director of AP II Muhammad Awaluddin remarked that the facial recognition system for aircraft passengers is part of the implementation of digital transformation that AP II had conducted since 2016.
“The use of facial recognition that we are currently preparing is one of our programs in massively digitizing airport services, security, and operations," Muhammad Awaluddin noted in a statement accessed here, Monday.
Awaluddin explained that in its first stage, the facial recognition system will be implemented at Security Check Point 2 (SCP 2) of Terminal 3 for Domestic Departures of the Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
“Through digitization, airplane passengers at the AP II airports can avail a novel experience that we call New Experience through (X) Technology Airport 4.0 or NEXT Airport 4.0. The goal is to improve the national airport sector to a higher level and in line with the global best practices," he remarked.

Awaluddin explained that the facial recognition system will make the process easier for passengers, as they would no longer have to show physical documents for inspection at SCP 2.
"In addition to enhancing the digitalization experience at AP II airports, prospective airplane passengers can experience a seamless journey," he remarked.
Application of the face recognition system to process flight departures at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport is currently still in its trial period.
The service is in the verification process by the Directorate of Aviation Security of the Ministry of Transportation to ensure it meets the aviation security aspect.
Meanwhile, AP II Airport Digital Airport Business Project Chief Wahyu Cahyadi remarked that the facial recognition system is supported by AP II's “travelin” application available on Android and iOS.
He added that the face recognition system is expected to be fully implemented at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in January 2022 and gradually later at other airports managed by AP II.
