The work to build infiltration wells is 67-percent complete
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Governor of Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria highlighted that 18,111 infiltration wells were built in the capital city, or 67 percent of the targeted 26 thousand.

"The work to build infiltration wells is 67-percent complete," Patria noted at the Jakarta City Hall, Monday.

Patria confirmed that the Jakarta government will conduct an ongoing evaluation of several flood prevention programs, including the establishment of infiltration wells, to increase efficacy.

"We will pay attention to the point, the location to be more effective. However, so far, the presence of infiltration wells has helped water in the puddles to recede immediately," he noted.

Apart from infiltration wells, the Jakarta government has also built reservoirs and polders as well as provided mobile and standby pumps.

Patria noted that in Jakarta, a total of 1,050 water pumps have been provided for flood prevention and management, comprising 490 standby pumps, 327 mobile pumps, and 228 pumps from the fire department.

Meanwhile, Patria sought support from all ranks of governments in the capital to realize the target of ensuring that the floodwaters recede within six hours.

"All ranks must ensure preparedness and help, so that the floodwaters can recede in no more than six hours," he emphasized.

Earlier, the Jakarta government had claimed that the flooding had subsided in several areas in East and South Jakarta on Saturday in less than six hours owing to collaboration among various ranks of the regional governments and organizations.

An official from the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Sabdo Kurnianto, affirmed that floodwaters in most areas swamped in East Jakarta had receded in about two hours as was observed in the villages of Cipinang Melayu, Makasar, and Kebon Pala.

Meanwhile, the floodwaters receded in some three to four hours at inundated locations in the villages of Cililitan, Tengah, and Rambutan.

"The joint equipped personnel of the Jakarta provincial government moved quickly in handling the inundation," he noted.
