The PUPR Ministry has received multiple applications for flat construction from regional authorities, and we have also constructed flats in regions that applied for the assistance
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) urged regional authorities accepting flat procurement benefits from the ministry to conduct professional flat management after the completed flat is handed over to their authority.

"The PUPR Ministry has received multiple applications for flat construction from regional authorities, and we have also constructed flats in regions that applied for the assistance. We then urge regional authorities for prompt utilization after the flat construction is completed," the ministry's acting Director of Flats, Maryoko Hadi, noted in his official statement here on Wednesday.

The acting director urged regional authorities to conceive a flat complex utilization plan in accordance with their flat construction application and ensure prompt disbursement for residents after the completed flat is handed over to the regional government.

He also pressed for professional flat management to maintain the building's quality and protect its facilities from likely damage.

The regional government must first appoint a flat management team responsible for the flat complex before continuing to designate flat unit recipients, conceive measures to maintain flat building and facilities, and oversee the daily flat management, the acting director stated.

"According to the minister's instruction, regional governments must allocate a part of their budget for the maintenance of the flat building after the flat is handed over to the regional authority," Hadi remarked.

The regional authority could also consult and coordinate with the ministry's office responsible for procuring residential homes in regions, he added.

Earlier, the ministry's Directorate General of Housing had pressed regional authorities to expedite flat procurement in respective regions for low-income residents.

"We urge regional authorities to facilitate our efforts in expediting the provision of flats for low-income residents by utilizing facilities assured by the Job Creation Law," Khalawi Abdul Hamid, the director general, noted during an online seminar in Jakarta on Monday (Aug 23).

Hamid expressed hope that the commitment would help address the housing backlog issue in Indonesia, especially dwellings for low-income residents in urgent need of proper housing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
