Thus, we cannot act selfish.
Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini said here on Monday that people should uphold solidarity in handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

"President Jokowi stated that through togetherness, we would be able to advance, especially in handling COVID-19," she remarked after attending the 64th commemoration of National Solidarity Day (HKSN).

The minister noted that the spirit of solidarity, togetherness, and mutual cooperation should continue to be upheld in dealing with the pandemic.

“If we are being selfish – for instance, by refusing to wear masks or getting vaccinated -- the act will hinder the handling of COVID-19," she emphasized.

The minister has stressed that people not intending to comply with health protocols will pose a threat to other individuals, their families, and the entire nation.

“Thus, we cannot act selfish since more people will become infected with the virus if we continue to ignore health protocols,” she stated.

Hence, Rismaharini expects the community to always remain disciplined in implementing health protocols. She also urged people to get vaccinated immediately at health centers.

"We must comply with the government's regulations to deal with the pandemic," she affirmed.

According to the official site of the COVID-19 Task Force, as of December 19, 2021, there were 4,260,544 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Indonesia, out of which some 4,923 were active cases.

Meanwhile, the main event of the commemoration of HKSN was held on Monday at the Governor's Office of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province. It took place with a limited number of participants in accordance with the health protocols.

Several agendas conducted at the event comprised handing over of the Solidarity Flag and bestowing the Satyalancana -- an award given by the Indonesian government to civil servants for their services -- for solidarity.

In addition, a National Social Welfare (KSN) exhibition was held.
