Until now we have not found pneumonia in patients with Omicron variant. Hopefully, we will not find it
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The medical team at the Sulianti Saroso Infectious Diseases Hospital (RSPI SS), Jakarta is still studying hypercoagulopathy in patients infected with the Omicron variant of COVID-19, an official informed on Thursday.

Hypercoagulopathy is a condition characterized by an increased tendency to form blood clots in blood vessels.

"We have standardized examinations and we found hypercoagulopathy condition in patients. Whether this is due to comorbidities or something else, we are still studying it," Pompini Agustina Sitompul, an official from the hospital, stated at an event entitled 'Preparation Towards Omicron' on Thursday.

Hypercoagulopathy can impact the kidneys, lungs, heart, and other organs, she said. Several confirmed patients with comorbidities have shown signs of hypercoagulopathy, she informed.

So far, 68 Omicron cases have been detected in Indonesia, she noted. The majority of infections have been detected in travelers from abroad, she said. There has been only one local transmission of Omicron, she added.

Currently, RSPI SS is treating patients who are suspected or have been confirmed to have contracted Omicron, she said. The patients have shown no symptoms or mild symptoms so far, she disclosed.

Among the patients infected with Omicron, there are also those who have received the full dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, she noted.

In general, the symptoms caused by Omicron are not much different from the previous variant, with patients presenting with mild symptoms, including anosmia (impaired sense of smell), nasal congestion, and cough, Sitompul said.

"Until now we have not found pneumonia in patients with Omicron variant. Hopefully, we will not find it," she remarked.

According to Sitompul, the hospital's medical team is paying special attention to Omicron patients who have comorbidities, even if they are not exhibiting symptoms of illness.

Patients at RSPI Sulianti Saroso will be provided with an isolation room, multivitamins, psychological support, and medical rehabilitation, she informed.

"At RSPI Sulianti Suroso we always evacuate patients with a fast flow, without contaminating many health workers, and go straight to the patient isolation room," she added.
