In K3 protection, this certainly poses a dynamic challenge which necessitates new strategies that could adjust work relation with handling toward potential danger
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The digital era has presented new challenges to efforts to protect the safety and health (K3) of workers, Minister of Manpower, Ida Fauziyah, noted at an event on Wednesday.

During the 2022 National K3 Month commemoration event, she said that the development of digital technology has produced a more flexible work relationship pattern, including partnerships and freelance work opportunities.

"In K3 protection, this certainly poses a dynamic challenge which necessitates new strategies that could adjust work relation with handling toward potential danger," she explained.

In the digital era, employees can do their job outside of the workplace, including at home and in public places, she noted. They can also encounter health and safety risks at the location where they carry out their job, she pointed out.

Thus, monitoring workplace safety and health has become more difficult, Fauziyah said.

To this end, the minister asked all stakeholders, including manpower supervisors, to continue to develop and innovate in order to face the changes in manpower problems.

"So that they (workers) do not experience an accident or get sick due to work," she affirmed.

According to the data from the Workers Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan), the number of work accidents reached 182 thousand in 2019 and further increased to 225 thousand in 2020, she said.

During the period from January to September in 2021, the agency recorded 82 thousand work accidents and 179 cases of sickness attributed to work, with COVID-19 accounting for 65 percent of the cases, she added.

During Wednesday's event, Fauziyah also urged all stakeholders to ensure the stringent implementation of work safety and health measures, saying they are crucial for handling the COVID-19 pandemic.
