Jakarta (ANTARA) - Two elementary schools in Tanjung Duren, West Jakarta, are suspending 100-percent face-to-face classes after some teachers tested positive for COVID-19.

“If I am not mistaken, two elementary schools have been closed. They are SD Tanjung Duren Selatan 01 and 05,” Chief of the West Jakarta Education and Educators' Section II Masduki stated on Tuesday.

Masduki did not divulge details on when the two schools were closed.

However, he emphasized that school must be closed for five days if any of its teachers or students had been found to be exposed to COVID-19.

“Based on the joint decree of four ministers, it must be closed for five days. During the period of the given days, classes must be held online,” he stressed.

During that period, all classrooms of the school will be sterilized with disinfectant.

Contact tracing will also be conducted to monitor the spread of COVID-19 near the school building, he stated.

Earlier, Jakarta Vice Governor Ahmad Riza Patria noted that face-to-face learning at 39 schools in the capital had been temporarily stopped after the discovery of COVID-19 cases there.

“Based on data we have received today, 39 schools were closed, but some of them have been reopened,” Riza remarked at the Jakarta City Hall on Monday night.

Meanwhile, 62 students, two teachers, and three employees of the 39 schools were exposed to COVID-19, he remarked.

"Most of the COVID-19 cases were from outside schools, such as from travel or home. On average, the positivity rate is one to two for the schools,” he noted.

Only one school -- SMKN 35 Jakarta -- has the positivity rate of nine cases.

However, all of them are temporarily closed for five days since their positivity rate is below five percent.

He noted that 39 schools were closed since the start of face-to-face learning that commenced on January 3, 2022,

“Based on the data we have received, nine schools have been reopened,” he stated.
