This especially holds true during activities to schools, markets, and workplaces, as well as taking care of administration for the sub-district office and visiting other residents
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono stated that suspension bridges, such as Girpasang suspension bridge in Klaten District, Central Java, help village residents by reducing the travel time and boosting mobility.

"This especially holds true during activities to schools, markets, and workplaces, as well as taking care of administration for the sub-district office and visiting other residents," Hadimuljono noted in a written statement here, Friday.

The 120-meter-long Girpasang Suspension Bridge, with a width of 1.8 meters, was constructed by PT Astadipati Duta Harindo and Hantarmasa - Global KSO, with a contract value of Rp3.2 billion. The construction took place from July to December 2021.

The Girpasang Suspension Bridge was built to support connectivity between the villages of Beringin and Girpasang. The suspension bridge can reduce travel time, from 15-30 minutes to three to five minutes.

Moreover, it is a tourist attraction that is quite popular among local visitors, coupled with the gondola for transportation that was built in 2021.

House of Representatives' Speaker Puan Maharani, accompanied by Head of Klaten District Sri Mulyani and Director of Bridge Construction of the PUPR Ministry Yudha Handita, inaugurated the Girpasang Suspension Bridge in Klaten District on January 20.

Maharani is optimistic that the Girpasang Suspension Bridge would be able to boost the welfare of the surrounding community.

She also urged the residents to always maintain the safety, comfort, and cleanliness of the bridge.

"I heard that on weekends, the number of visitors can reach up to five thousand. Since only 50 people can use this bridge at one time, it is necessary to monitor the safety aspect. It must be prioritized," Maharani emphasized.

Meanwhile, Director of Bridge Construction of the PUPR Ministry Yudha Handita explained that prior to the suspension bridge, access to Girpasang Village was traversed through 1,001 steps, with a depth of 150 m, thereby restricting the movement of goods, as the residents only used simple wooden gondolas to transport animal feed and local products.

"This bridge will facilitate the people's mobility. We are optimistic of this bridge being able to improve the local community's economy and welfare," Handita stated.
