Surabaya, E Java (ANTARA) - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa said all Indonesian migrant workers returning from Malaysia must be quarantined at the Sukolilo Hajj Dormitory in Surabaya for seven days upon their arrival at Juanda International Airport, as an effort to prevent COVID-19 transmission in the country.

"Those who are tested negative for COVID-19 will be quarantined at the Hajj Dormitory while those who are tested positive will be immediately taken to Dr Soetomo Hospital," Parawansa said here on Sunday.

On January 22, as many as 129 Indonesian workers arrived from Malaysia at Terminal 2 of the Juanda International Airport and underwent RT-PCR test to detect COVID-19 virus.

"While waiting for the results of the swab test, the person concerned is not allowed to eat or drink," she added.

Migrant workers who were tested negative for COVID-19, were sent to the quarantine facility and would only be allowed to return to their respective homes after completing the quarantine period.

"The Hajj Dormitory has sufficient beds amounting to 650 units and able to accommodate the returning migrant workers," Parawansa added.

The East Java Provincial Government also prepared other quarantine facilities at the Educational Quality Assurance Institute Building and the Religious Education and Training Center in Surabaya City, if the hajj dormitory could not accommodate all workers.

Some hotels were also prepared for international travelers who need quarantine facilities.

The provision of quarantine facilities for migrant workers and other international travelers is part of the East Java's efforts to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

"We have carried out various preparations that have been carefully simulated. By God's will, our team will supervise the arrival of migrant workers," she said
