Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Air Force Chief of Staff (Kasau) Air Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo inaugurated the National Air Operations Command (Koopsudnas) to replace the National Air Defense Command (Kohanudnas).

"Koopsudnas will be responsible for various air defense operations conducted by Kohanudnas earlier," he remarked at the unit’s inauguration ceremony at the Koopsudnas Command Headquarters, Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force (TNI AU) Base, Jakarta, on Friday.

Furthermore, he noted that Vice Marshal Andyawan Martono Putra will serve as commander of Koopsudnas, while Rear Marshal Novyan Samyoga -- who was commander of Kohanudnas -- will be assigned the role of chief of staff of Koopsudnas.

In addition, several nomenclature changes of other TNI AU units, include the change of the TNI AU Operations Command I, II, and III into the Air Operations Command.

The Special Force (Paskhas) was also changed to the Rapid Action Forces Corps (Korpasgat), while the National Air Defense Sector Command (Kosekhanudnas) was changed to the Koopsudnas Sector Command.

The three units will come under the command of Koopsudnas.

The Kasau noted that the command transfer, integration, and change are in accordance with the 2020-2024 National Defense General Strategy, including the development of the Indonesian military forces’ structure, especially the TNI AU.

He stated that the TNI AU is expected to have strategic agility and high mobility to protect Indonesia’s sovereignty and national interests.

Since military technology and challenges are getting more complex, the TNI AU is also required to deal with various forms of threats.

"For instance, kinetic and non-kinetic threats that can attack us any time," Prasetyo noted.

In addition, he assessed that the changes are important attempts to realize unity of command.

"This is especially important to improve focus and coordination in TNI AU’s asset utilization and deployment," he added.

Furthermore, he expressed optimism that the arrival of several new military equipment would make the Koopsudnas more advanced.
