Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - The Tangerang City Health Office has recorded an increase in the bed occupancy rate (BOR) in hospitals over the last week, with bed occupancy reaching 32.18 percent on January 30, 2022, from 11.43 percent the previous week.

Currently, 297 out of the 796 beds in the city have been filled, it reported.

"Currently, there are 297 beds filled with a detail of 13 patients in ICU and 284 patients in treatment rooms with moderate and severe conditions," head of the Tangerang City Health Office, Dr. Dini Anggraeni, said in a statement issued on Monday.

The BOR has increased compared to January 23, 2022, when it was recorded at 11.43 percent with 91 patients receiving treatment in hospitals. she informed.

"We need to be alert for this condition. The increase in cases, no matter what the variant is, must be curbed together with the implementation of strict health protocols and vaccinations to prevent severe symptoms when infected," she said.

As of January 30, 2022, 1,577,483 or 106.6 percent of the targeted recipients have received the first dose, 1,173,502 or 79.3 percent the second dose, and 68,070 or 4.6 percent the third dose, she informed.

"We urge people who have not been vaccinated yet to immediately register and visit the vaccination centers as an effort to suppress the spread of COVID-19 and boost the immune system," she stressed.

Earlier, Tangerang Mayor Arief R. Wismansyah had affirmed that all related parties in Tangerang city, such as regional apparatus organizations, the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and hospitals, are on standby to face the third wave of COVID-19.

According to Wismansyah, the preparedness is a follow-up to the meeting held earlier between the regional heads of Java-Bali and the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, on the third wave of COVID-19 in Indonesia.

The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Indonesia in March 2020. According to data provided by the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, as of January 31, 2022, at least 4,353,370 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the country, while 4,140,454 people have recovered and 144,320 people have succumbed to the virus.
