ANOC technical director Haider Farman on Sunday (February 6, 2022) reviewed the Pulisan Beach area, Manado, North Sulawesi, which is one of the cities proposed by KOI for hosting the 2023 World Beach Games (AWBG), the press release said.
According to the release, Farman said he was impressed by the white sand and blue sea at Manado.
"It is an honor to visit Manado, the beach is so beautiful. The forest is also very natural. It is an incredible opportunity to be here," he remarked.
Farman said he had visited several venues and areas in Pulisan Beach, but some studies need to be conducted again, especially regarding hotels and transportation.
In addition to Manado, KOI chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari said that his team also proposed several other cities to ANOC, including Bali.
"We are serious about hosting the 2023 World Beach Games. This is one of the options we proposed. Of course, we will study (the options) again and look at all the potential so that Indonesia can host AWBG," Oktohari added.
"In addition to Manado, there is Bali, which once hosted the 2008 Asian Beach Games. There are also (some areas in) Riau Islands, such as Batam and Bintan," he informed.
Indonesia was named as one of the candidates for hosting the 2023 World Beach Games, based on the decision of the ANOC General Assembly in Crete, Greece on October 24–25, 2021.
Hong Kong has also expressed interest in organizing the prestigious beach sports multi-event launched by ANOC in 2019.
