ANTAM conducts several innovations in waste managementJakarta (ANTARA) - State mining sub-holding PT Aneka Tambang (ANTAM) ensured that environmental management around its operational locations followed the existing standardization, as it had always stood by waste management policies based on each waste characteristic.
ANTAM has in place a good planning and monitoring system that is on time and conducts regular evaluations, ANTAM Corporate Secretary Yulan Kustiyan noted here on Wednesday.
"ANTAM conducts several innovations in waste management," Kustiyan remarked while responding to the dead fish incident at Cikaniki River in Kalongliud Village, Nanggung Sub-District, in Bogor, West Java.
During that incident, ANTAM immediately inspected all its mining facilities and factories, collected a water sample from Cikaniki River, and coordinated with several parties.
"The inspection results stated that all currents in facilities and checkpoints did not exceed the threshold or there was no harm done to the environmental management system in ANTAM's operating area in Pongkor. ANTAM guaranteed there were no leaks in pipelines, tailings dams, or wastewater treatment plants," he elaborated.
"We coordinate and support the efforts made by relevant stakeholders to find the exact cause of the incident. Along with the relevant parties, monitoring and evaluation have been conducted since February 3, 2022," Kustiyan revealed.
The corporate secretary explained that the phenomenon of dead fish occurred in a radius of 10 kilometers from ANTAM's operating site. Hence, he concluded that the incident was not caused by ANTAM's operations, given the fact that it is located at a distance and the non-appearance of pipeline leaks.
As a company that always prioritizes best mining practices, ANTAM also affirms that it had consistently prioritized standardized environmental management to preserve the environment at ANTAM's operating sites and its surroundings.
"We are also optimistic that this incident would be handled well so as to not hugely impact the communities," Kustiyan remarked.
