The government needs support from the MA and all ranks in the high courts and district courts throughout Indonesia. The role of the Supreme Court, as a guardian of justice, is very crucial in supporting Indonesia's transformation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government needed the support of the Supreme Court (MA), as a guardian of justice, in conducting Indonesia's transformation agenda, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated.

"The government needs support from the MA and all ranks in the high courts and district courts throughout Indonesia. The role of the Supreme Court, as a guardian of justice, is very crucial in supporting Indonesia's transformation," Jokowi remarked while virtually attending the 2021 Supreme Court Annual Report on Tuesday.

Support from the MA and judiciary is deemed necessary since it is impossible for the Government, as an executive agency, to conduct all reform agendas in Indonesia.

MA needs to play the role of an institution that can produce important or landmark decisions that offer legal certainty and justice for the entire community, Jokowi affirmed.

"We need landmark decisions that provide fair legal certainty for the community, business actors, and investors, which also protect state assets and other public assets as well as provide a deterrent effect for corruptors and legal mafias," Jokowi stressed.

Currently, the Indonesian government is overseeing several important transformation agendas, such as increasing equitable development that is more Indonesia-centric, expanding the downstream sector to bring the added value of natural resources (SDA) to the community, and supporting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to develop through digitization.

Indonesia is also pursuing other transformation agendas: strengthening the green economy, accelerating energy transition to new and renewable energy, and strengthening the blue economy to help Indonesia's maritime industry to become sustainable.

"We also conduct transformations in the legal field through structural reforms, deregulation, and de-bureaucratization to support legal certainty and ease of doing business. We also want to ensure investment security, expand employment opportunities, and improve the nation's competitiveness, as well as eradicate corruption," Jokowi stated.
