This is the beginning of a breakthroughJakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Defense Ministry and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for collaboration in research and innovation to support national defense.
The MoU was inked directly by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto and BRIN Head Laksana Tri Handoko at the Defense Ministry, here on Wednesday.
"Strong technology will produce a strong defense. Hence, we are pioneering cooperation with BRIN. This is the beginning of a breakthrough," Prabowo stated as quoted in a press release, Thursday.
Minister Subianto noted that the cooperation is a strategic first step and has the likelihood to produce several research- and development-based products in the defense sector.

The minister stated that the future of the nation will depend significantly on the research conducted by scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians.
Hence, the minister noted that this collaboration should be followed up in a concrete way.
In the meantime, Head of BRIN Laksana Tri Handoko remarked that the cooperation was the start of the potential that must be explored jointly by the Defense Ministry and BRIN.
Handoko expressed the BRIN's readiness to support research and development conducted by the BUMN holding in the defense industry sector.

On the same occasion, Head of the Research and Development Agency at the Defense Ministry, Junior Marshal of Army Julexi Tambayong, and BRIN's Acting Deputy for Research and Innovation Utilization Mego Pinandito signed a cooperation agreement in research and development in the defense sector.
During the signing of the MoU with BRIN, Minister Prabowo Subianto was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Defense Lieutenant General of the Army M. Herindra, Secretary General of the Defense Ministry Marshal of Army Marshal Donny Ermawan Taufanto, Inspector General of the Defense Ministry Lt. Amarullah Octavian, and Special Assistant to the Minister of Defense for Defense Policy Management Lieutenant General of the Retired Army Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.
