Floods submerged the Ahmad Yani Street in East Baturaja District as well as residential areas in West Baturaja Sub-district, Gunalfi, an officer of the Ogan Komering Ulu Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD), stated here on Thursday.
At least 88 houses inhabited by 150 families in Talang Jawa Village, West Baturaja, were flooded , with waters reaching up to a meter in height.
"Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this disaster," he stated.
The daily activities of local residents were disrupted, as several roads were submerged by flood waters reaching heights of between 30 cm to a meter.
The BPBD has deployed officers to flood locations to help residents affected by the flooding.
"Alhamdulillah, based on field observations, the floods have started to recede, and most residents have chosen to return to their homes to clean up the mud," he remarked.
He reminded residents to remain vigilant of the likelihood of more floods. Meanwhile, some 28 houses in Dondo Village, South Balantak Sub-district, Banggai District, Central Sulawesi Province, were damaged following floods on Wednesday.
Of the total 28 houses, eight houses incurred heavy damage, three suffered moderate damage, while minor damages were reported in 17 houses, South Balantak Sub-district Head Robby Nuraga stated on Wednesday.
The flooding was triggered by incessant heavy rains lashing since 11 p.m. local time on Tuesday until 3 a.m. local time on Wednesday. The rains also caused the Dondo River to overflow its bank.
No casualties were reported in the disaster, and the flood victims began returning to their respective homes, and the floodwaters receded, he remarked.
"Eight houses are badly damaged, and some people are cleaning them, while some others are repairing their houses," he noted.
