Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government will launch the E-Katalog (E-Catalog) on March 24, 2022, to increase central and regional governments' spending on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan stated.

The E-Katalog platform is an online shopping platform developed by the National Public Procurement Agency (LKPP).

"On the 24th (of March), we will launch the E-Katalog, wherein we will oblige all regions to shop through the E-Katalog, and that will have an impact on the even distribution of MSMEs, (thereby) impacting the community," Pandjaitan noted during the kick-off of the G20's Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) here on Tuesday.

In a written statement here, the government is targeting to allocate Rp400 trillion of government spending to MSMEs and small industries in the country through the E-Katalog platform.

"By allocating Rp400 trillion, we will use it to spend on small industries in regions, in villages, so that they can be included in the regional catalog. Thus, later, the procurement will be efficient and will prevent corruption, as there is no need for tenders," he expounded.

The minister noted that the E-Katalog would not only serve as a platform to trade food or drinks but also other goods, such as motorcycles and cars manufactured in the country.

"Of course, gradually, over the next few years, it will work. This is also a showcase in the G20. Thus, this digitization will make Indonesia much better than what people think," he explained.

According to Pandjaitan, the government has readied the E-Katalog platform since the past seven months. On account of its vast benefits, he suggested that E-Katalog be obligated for the government's procurement of goods and services.

The minister stressed the importance of digitalization to support that program. He also ensured that regular monitoring and audits will be conducted regarding the implementation of the program.

"How about the monitoring? We will monitor all, and (they) will be regularly audited by the Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP). Those, who do not implement it, will receive sanctions that have been clearly regulated," he expounded.

Pandjaitan is optimistic that young Indonesians would be creative in creating something new-fangled that can be incorporated into the platform.

He noted that President Joko Widodo will directly launch the E-Katalog platform in Bali.
