Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned company Pertamina inaugurated a solar power plant (PLTS) in Karang Rejo Village as part of its commitment to accelerating energy transition.

"This PLTS project is a representation of the Task Force ESC B20's efforts to accelerate the deployment of centralized energy solutions, including off-grid & grid-based electrification with community participation to increase energy security and economic welfare of the community," CEO of Subholding Power & NRE Advisor of Task Force ESC B20 Dannif Danusaputro stated here Thursday.

Danusaputro remarked that as a state-owned company engaged in the energy sector, Pertamina has an important role to play in the energy transition process in Indonesia.

Hence, Pertamina seeks to lead the energy transition process with various initiatives ranging from the development of geothermal, gas to power energy, solar, hydro, wind, biomass and biogas, as well as other energy sources.

Pertamina is also exploring the electric vehicle, natural-based solution, and hydrogen industrial sectors, which are believed to be the main energy sources to support the world's energy transition process.

According to Danusaputro, as part of B20, Pertamina also fully supports and remains committed to playing an active role in the Energy Transitions Working Group and Climate Sustainability Working Group (ETWG-CSWG).

"Together, let us make B20 a moment of change. Pertamina is also strongly committed to continuing collaboration with the government and others by embracing communities and villages that still have limited access to energy to study the local energy potential, especially in the aspect of new and renewable energy," he remarked.

One of the programs to introduce new and renewable energy to the community is to build Desa Energi Berdikari (Energy Independent Village), which is supported by Pertamina, the Society of Renewable Energy (SRE), and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to produce affordable and reliable energy to preserve the environment and improve the economy of rural communities.

Danusaputro stated that Pertamina had implemented the Independent Energy Village Program in 19 villages, and by 2022, the program will be implemented in 38 other villages.

According to Danusaputro, all these programs align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) target number 7 of Affordable & Clean Energy and also number 8 of Decent Work & Economic Growth.
