Jakarta (ANTARA) - Governor of Jakarta Anies Baswedan assessed that the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) could encourage the people’s economy in northern Jakarta since infrastructure development was not only conducted at the stadium but also across the region.

"We hope the stadium would become a driving force to advance the economy sector," the governor remarked through his YouTube channel here on Monday.

Since the onset, the development of JIS has paid attention to the impact on the surrounding community, he noted.

Baswedan stated that the Cincin Reservoir, located on the east of the stadium, will be revitalized later.

Furthermore, some office and residential towers will be established around the new stadium.

In addition, 130 flats are being constructed for the villagers living adjacent to the stadium area. Some of the flats will be made available for people with disabilities, the governor revealed.

The flats are built in line with the concept of urban agriculture since farming is a source of livelihood for some of the villagers, he stated.

"Currently, the flats are being constructed. It is also hoped that they would be able to find jobs and participate in the events that take place at the stadium," he stated.

Hence, a train station will be built next to JIS to encourage visitors to use means of public transportation to reach the stadium, he remarked.

Furthermore, on account of the fact that the stadium is located next to the tourism attraction Taman Impian Jaya Ancol, JIS will be integrated with the tourism destination.

On the same occasion, Baswedan also noted that the stadium was built as an eco-friendly structure, with a special installation for water conservation and 1,080 roof solar panels. The materials used to build the stadium were also environmentally friendly.
