Ponorogo, East Java (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has emphasized the importance of preparing superior and competitive human resources to advance the nation.

“We need young people who have high spirit because we want to prepare superior human resources who have competitiveness, not only nationally but globally,” he said while visiting Wali Songo Ngabar Islamic boarding school, Ponorogo, East Java, on Wednesday.

He lauded the students of the Islamic boarding school for not only excelling in religion but also science and technology.

“Hopefully, this will become the model that we will develop: not only excelling in religion but also science and technology,” he remarked.

“I am glad that you are passionate about becoming diplomats, mathematics professors. This is awesome," he told students.

He advised the students to continue to be eager to achieve their goals, especially for continuing their education.

“The key is science and human resources who have high knowledge. Keep on pursuing your dreams. May Allah bless you," he remarked.

During his visit, Vice President Amin also inaugurated the Islamic International Junior School building at the Mambaul Huda Madrasa, which is located inside the Wali Songo Ngabar Islamic boarding school.

The event was also attended by the Minister of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration, Abdul Halim Iskandar; Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa; district head of Ponorogo, Sugiri Sancoko; and head of the National Alms Agency (Baznas), Noor Achmad.

The Vice President was accompanied by the head of the Secretariat of the Vice President, Ahmad Erani Yustika; Special Staff to the Vice President, Masduki Baidlowi, Masykuri Abdillah, and Robikin Emhas; expert team of the Vice President, Johan Tedja Surya; and acting deputy for economic policy support and competitiveness improvement at the Vice President's Secretariat, M. Zulkarnain.
