Jakarta (ANTARA) - Regional development must be integrated with national development, Secretary General of the Home Affairs Ministry, Suhajar Diantoro, noted in a statement received here on Thursday.

Regional development refers to the authority for concurrent government affairs that had been entrusted to the provincial, district, and city governments.

Diantoro pointed out that the decentralization policy had offered abundant autonomy to regional governments at the provincial, district, and city level. The regional autonomy policy stipulated the submission of details pertaining to concurrent government affairs, both mandatory and optional, to the regional government, he affirmed.

The governor, as the representative of the central government, must lead and coordinate the progress achieved in the development goals at the district and city levels, he stressed.

"Hence, our framework for thinking about the (discussion on development plans) and its contents is based on the transfer of concurrent government affairs," he elaborated.

The regional government should consider several aspects following the preparation of the 2023 Regional Government Work Plan, including the latest regulations and policies, such as efforts to expedite reduction of stunting rate prevalence and attempts to address extreme poverty issues.

Regional governments must also pay attention to the documents of planning, pursuing strategic issues, and results of technical coordination meetings for central and provincial development planning, among other things.

Diantoro listed two essences of the implementation of the discussion conducted by the provincial government. First, it served as a forum to gauge the consistency of the regional administration's work plans to the regional medium-term development plans set by the governor and deputy governor.

Second, it was a forum to assess the understanding of regional leaders and their staff of regional medium-term development plans as measured from the suitability of the leaders' ideas or suggestions during the discussion regarding the provincial medium-term development plans, given the submitted suggestions were the result of the district- and city-level discussions, he stated.
