Jakarta (ANTARA) - The building of digital skills has become key in the effort to create productive citizens and generate more jobs in the cloud computing technology era, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno has said.

During the Media Briefing AWS re/Start event on Thursday, he said that Indonesia will always seek to bridge the gap between workforce skills and job availability.



This is one of the primary factors that is driving the rise in unemployment and leading to people working in fields outside of their main expertise.



"To this end, there should be a specific effort to close the gap and help to create a more productive and empowered people," he noted.

Cloud computing is a combination of computer technology utilization and Internet-based development.



It offers many benefits such as an increase in data storage capacity without having to purchase extra equipment, data access anytime and anywhere, and guaranteed security.



In addition, users can develop their creations without having to deliver their work directly and data can be safely secured even when a hard disk or hardware is broken.

Uno deemed cloud computing as a foundational element of the digital ecosystem that the nation is currently building. Hence, grooming a large number of talented individuals across Indonesia is necessary.



The ministry also has identified several sectors that will rely on digital skills in the future.



As people become more skilled in technology utilization, the gap between workforce capability and work availability can be handled.



Efforts to improve digital skills also align with the instruction of President Joko Widodo, which is to focus on the development of digital talents that will support Indonesia in the Industry 4.0 era.



"This is the only way we can transform into a digital nation that can provide global impact," the minister remarked.
